Care should be taken when using oxalic acid, however, as it is poisonous. Always be sure to wear rubber gloves when handling either type of bleach and use it in a well-ventilated area (Fig. 45). The traditional method of applying bleach was with a grass brush but we find that a piece of towelling is ideal and has the advantage that it can be disposed of carefully after use. Do not work out of metal containers as bleach will rot them - glass or stout plastic is fine. Do not use the bleach container for any other substance.
