Chapter 2 Blues Busters Imagine you wake up one morning feeling horrible. Your nose is running, you’re coughing a lot, and you feel kind of hot. You could go to school anyway, but you wouldn’t have a good day. You know having a cold or the flu just takes time to go away. But getting plenty of rest, drinking a lot of fluids, and sometimes taking medicine can help you feel better faster. Feeling cranky and blue is like having a bad cold. The feelings will probably go away at some point even if you don’t do anything different, but there are things you can do to help yourself feel better faster.

I call them “Blues Busters”—tips you can use to make yourself feel better when you’re feeling down. They’ll help you get moving forward again, so you don’t miss out on the fun things in life. You can use them at other times, too. Think of them as ways to keep yourself healthy. Using Blues Busters You can use these Blues Busters at home, at school, or anywhere you feel cranky or blue. The strategies are numbered, but you don’t have to use them in any order. Try as many of them as you like and see which ones work best.
