You may worry too much about these things—things that you never even used to think twice about. ” Like a thief in the night, worries about food and weight can steal your positive, self-accepting thoughts and feelings. Worries may take up so much brainpower that you don’t think of the good things about yourself, and the good things in your life. So if you worry too much about food and weight, how do you stop? It’s a hard question. The girls in this chapter will share their Special Statements with you and give you some of their tried-and-true solutions.

Why? What’s the hardest thing you’ve been through, and how did you get through it? Whom do you look up to? What kind of person do you want to be in five years? These are good places to start as you search for your positive thoughts and feelings about yourself and your body and your life. Then think of a Special Statement all your own. Once you think of your Special Statement, let it work for you. Let it distract you from thinking 24/7 about food and weight. Let its positive idea fill you up and replace your worries.

They don’t crack or split or anything. So that was good, and it made me feel a little special, and it kind of reinforced my Special Statement. I kept thinking to myself, One step at a time—I like my nails. And the pedicure was amazing—I never had one before. I soaked my feet in a whirlpool bath, and the lady gave me a foot massage!
