Don’t forget the need to lay out the machine work needed on the die shoes while they are in the press. This step ensures accurate hole or slot locations. • Often parallels and subplates must be permanently attached to the dies to save setup time. While old dies can be a good source of surplus parallels and plate, there is usually a limit as to how much any shop’s junk pile can be relied upon as a source of material.
