THE BEST METHOD OF RESEARCH Both positivist and naturalistic inquiry have an important place in healthcare research and therefore in generating evidence to inform practice (Mulhall, 1998).
Although ‘research’ is usually regarded as the best form of evidence, the type of research that this refers to will depend upon the subject in question. How closely each paradigm fits the phenomenon being explored is the crucial point in deciding its place in hierarchies of evidence.
