When the Matthew gospel is examined next to the Gospel of Mark it seems most likely for the sorts of reasons outlined above that the changes were made from Mark (�A' in this case) to Matthew ('B') and not vice versa, and thus Mark was first, and Mark was a source for Matthew. (That a literary relationship exists is indisputable in this case, so the source critical problem consists of determining which gospel was first and thus the source for the second.)
